Acknowledgments

The State Committee on Archives and the State Archives of Khmelnytsky Oblast are very grateful and appreciative to the following individuals and representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv.

  1. Mr. Randall Fishbein of Washington, D.C. initiated the proposal for assistance after seeing an internet demonstration by Miriam Weiner graphically depicting the burned documents and devastated building at the Jewish Genealogical Society's international conference in Washington, D.C. Dr. Fishbein's interest and enthusiasm were instrumental in the eventual awarding of this grant by the U.S. Embassy.
  2. We are very grateful to Janet Demiray, Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv. Ms. Demiray facilitated the application process as well as numerous telephone conversations and meetings. We deeply appreciate the continuing friendship of the American people.
  3. Also at the U.S. Embassy, we received cooperation from Sheril Bistransky, Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer, and Olha Lyubynetska, Public Affairs Assistant of the U.S. Embassy.
  4. Lastly, we say thank you to our long-time friend, Miriam Weiner (living in New Jersey and author of "Jewish Roots in Ukraine and Moldova") for publicizing the tragedy of this fire and for caring so much about the importance of these records. Her persistence in trying to find a way to preserve and salvage these documents led to the contact between Mr. Fishbein and the State Committee.
